Mr. Griffin came to Urban League’s ARCHS’ funded program with an urgent need for stable employment. At the time, he worked once a month as an event planner, a position not financially viable given his child support obligations. Having been released from prison just three months earlier, Mr. Griffin was acutely aware of the challenges he faced and frustrated with his previous contempt of court charges related to child support. He felt this situation was unfair and struggled to understand how to meet his obligations while making a sufficient income.
Our first step was to help Mr. Griffin understand the opportunities available to him. We began the job readiness process by guiding him to a career in the trades, which offered more financial stability. Mr. Griffin enrolled in OSHA, construction classes, and sought additional hours with his part-time job. This experience boosted his confidence. Next, he participated in a roofing training program, where he realized he could build a successful career in this industry.
Upon completing the training, Mr. Griffin attended an employment fair connecting qualified candidates with potential employers. He was selected by the training coordinator to present himself to a top contractor. This led to an immediate job offer from the contractor, marking a significant milestone in his career journey.
Mr. Griffin was extremely satisfied with his experience at Transition for Change Employment Service (TFCES). Enthusiastic about the support and opportunities he received, he shared TFCES’s contact information with his family and friends, becoming a passionate advocate for the program. Michael Griffin’s story is a testament to the transformative impact of dedicated support and skill development in overcoming obstacles and achieving career success.
